Our client, a leading organisation in the Scientific field, are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Graduate Scientist/Engineer to join the R&D team to make a significant contribution to the development of the diverse product range.

Working with the Group Research Director and R&D Electronics Engineer in the Sheffield production and R&D facility, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day undertaking and management of a number of aspects of the current and planned scientific instrumentation development projects. In addition, there is scope for international travel and other activities within the business, including providing support other departments such as Sales and Service in technical matters, as well as the customer base.

Graduate Scientist / Engineer (Research and Development) - Responsibilities:

• Planning and implementing research and development project work (hardware/firmware)
• Development and testing of embedded system programs for new hardware
• Construction and testing of prototype hardware modules
• Recording and presenting data/results at weekly team meetings and wider company presentations
• Liaising/working with other R&D team members within the Group to achieve objectives
• Production of requisite QA documentation to support the ISO9001-compliant development process
• Supporting Production, Sales and Service departments and customers when required
• Requirements

Experience:

• Bachelors, Integrated Masters or MSc in Physical Sciences or Electronic Engineering
• Experience of working with industry desirable

Skills:

Essential:

• Good understanding and practical experience of analogue and digital electronics
• Good understanding of physical measurement techniques and data analysis
• Embedded programming experience (e.g. C for Microchip PICs)
• Understanding and preparation of mechanical drawings
• Ability to liaise with technical suppliers (mechanical and electronic)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to keep to tight deadlines and good timekeeping
• Ability to work both alone and part as a multi-skilled and multi-disciplinary team
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment
• Willingness to support other areas of the business on technical matters (e.g. service, production and sales)
• Willingness to travel (domestic and international)

Desirable:

• Knowledge of acquisition and processing of signal pulses (current and voltage) in nuclear instrumentation
• Testing, troubleshooting and fault-finding
